Koh Tao : turtle island

On attendait ce moment depuis notre arrivée en Thailande : les îles du sud. C'est avec Koh Tao qu'on commence donc notre itinéraire de plagiste. L'ile est très petite ( 21 km de périmètre ) mais nous a donné pas mal de challenge pour accéder aux bons endroits. Ici , ça monte et ça descend et sans scooter on finit nos journées sur les rotules. On passe nos soirées à discuter avec Mod, la jeune femme thai qui nous loue le bungalow et nous cuisine de délicieux plats.

Les plages talonnent de très prêt ce qu'on a pu avoir en Australie il y a 2 ans avec des eaux turquoises a perte de vue où on découvre les récifs avec nos masques et tubât pendants des heures : c'est très beau , l'eau avoisine 28 degrés et ce n'est que le début.

Pour ceux qui idéalisent, sachez quand même que Leonardo et sa bande de potes du film "La Plage" on déserté depuis longtemps. Il n'y a plus vraiment de sites vierge sur les iles connues et elles empilent de plus en plus de resorts sans aucune infrastructure pour les traitements de déchets et eaux usagées ... Dommage.

On se dirige pour la suite vers Kho Phangan ( le siège de la très renommée "Full Moon Party ) où on devrait retrouver Mel et Orel.

We had waited for this moment since we arrived in Thailand: the southern islands. Koh Tao is the first. The island is very small (21 km for the perimeter), but quite challenging when it comes to reach the good spots. The roads aggressively go up and down, and without a scooter we end our days completely exhausted. We spend our evenings talking with Mod, the young Thai woman who rented us the bungalow, and enjoying her delicious Thai cooking.

The beaches here could easily challenge what we saw in Australia 2 years ago. The water is crystal clear and we spend hours snorkeling to discover the reef : it is very beautiful, the water is around 28 degrees and it is only the beginning.

For those who idealize, be aware that Leonardo and his friends from the movie "The Beach" have deserted long time ago. There are no more virgin area on the well known islands and tourist resorts are everywhere. Many of them don't have any infrastructure for waste and water treatment and the face of these little paradises is really in danger ... Too bad !

We're heading now to Kho Phangan (home to the renowned "Full Moon Party) where we should meet again with Mel and Orel.
